YouTube is expanding its comment topics feature, which utilizes AI to sort video comments into categories and to include more languages.
This update follows the successful initial launch last November, designed to enhance usage and engagement on the platform.
This feature has made it easier for viewers to review the comments by organizing discussions into clear categories.
By tapping on the "Comments" section where this feature is active, users can now access "Topics," which displays a range of discussion points relevant to the video content.
Expansion to Meet Many User Needs
After successfully implementing comment topics in English for videos with extensive comment sections, YouTube announced in June the extension of this feature to Shorts with high comment volumes. Following positive feedback, YouTube is now testing this feature in multiple languages across a broader array of content.
As YouTube explains,
"We're expanding our comment topics experiment to include all languages supported by YouTube comments. We heard positive feedback when we launched this feature within large comment sections on English-language videos, so we're happy to be testing it in more languages across more content."
Benefits for Content Creators
Besides enhancing viewer engagement, YouTube notes that content creators can utilize these comment summaries to refine their content strategies. Creators can explore comment discussions for audience insights and draw inspiration from topical conversations.
Creators can also manage the visibility of certain topics by removing individual comments associated with undesirable themes.
A Step Forward in AI Utilization
This move by YouTube highlights the growing importance of AI in shaping digital interactions, potentially increasing both engagement and interaction with video content on the platform.
Currently, YouTube is rolling out this feature incrementally, targeting videos with significant comment activity to gauge its impact and effectiveness.
